The presentation aims to introduce the use of discourse analysis in research studies. First, in an effort to explore the interface between language play and language awareness, I will discuss how language play episodes offer learners an opportunity to demonstrate their language awareness and serve as a metacognitive tool in language learning for the cultivation of language awareness. In this regard, the study provides implications for the use of humor in language classrooms. The second part of the presentation will explore how human users interact with AI-based voice assistants in meeting users' needs in communication, concentrating on the first pair part and second pair part in conversation. The discourse analysis of interactions yields insights into the variety of interactional patterns between human users and AI-based voice assistants, potentially driven by their awareness, experience, and knowledge.
